Golden Eagle swimming & diving competes at Pitt

On Saturday, both men and women’s swim team competed at the Western PA invite hosted by the University of Pittsburgh.

Clarion’s Josh Thruston and Joe Folz were even in the 50-yard freestyle, finishing just one second apart– coming in 6th and 7th place, respectively.  Seniors Chris Fenoglietto, Frank Bevevino and Hayden Shertzer rounded out the top ten.

Some other top-ten finishes from the men include: Emmett Matthews (10th) in the 200 Free; Tate Swanson (9th) and Drew Canter (10th) in the 100 Free, with times on 50.52 and 51.34.   Thurston finished in 8th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.27.

In the team competition, Clarion took eighth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Folz, Thurston, Swanson and Jacob Yant finishing in 1:28:19.

The best mark of the day for Clarion was by Autumn Fortney, placing fifth place int eh 100-yard butterfly, 59.84.

Gabi Wayne took home seventh in the 50-yard free with a time of 25.56.  Morgan Ernst got seventh in the 1000-yard free touching the wall in 12:33.78.

Raena Valli’s time of 1:07.73 gave her 10th overall in the 100-yard backstroke.  Then, in the 200-yard breaststroke Mary Clare Smith finished with a time of 2:31.28, taking home seventh.

The Golden Eagles’ medley relay with Ava Arnold, Smith, Fortney and Morgan Manglaviti came in eighth overall.  The combination of Abbey Newman, Wayne, Kelsey Burke and Letizia Collini also brought home eighth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Both men and women’s will be back in the pool this Saturday, February 2nd for the IUP starting at 10 a.m.
