CLARION, Pa – The Safewise Report recently named Clarion, Pa the 4th safest college town in the state and 18th in the nation.
Safewise is an online resource that ranks places and cities in terms of their safety and publishes resources on such topics as home, childcare and car safety.
In the December 2017 publication, “30 Safest College Towns in America,” Safewise honored Clarion as number 18. Included in the report was recognition of Clarion’s lack of reported murder, robbery and arson throughout the year. During this time, Clarion law enforcement recorded 70 violent crimes.
The report also lauded Clarion University for its emergency preparedness training in response to the potential of a mass shooter, bomb threat or severe weather.
SafeWise based their estimation of safest college towns on FBI statistics, which take into account such factors as crime numbers in non-college towns, population and community outreach safety programs.
Also on the list were Pennsylvania towns Slippery Rock, ranked 9th safest and Millersville, 14th safest.
