New game excites players, sends strong message

On January 30, 2015, a game came out by publishers Square Enix and Dontnod called “Life is Strange” which featured many characters, the ability to make choices and had an overall good message which went against bullying.

The story was a coming of age tale which featured a girl named Max Caulfield as she returns to her home in Arcadia Bay, Oregon. There she meets up with her best friend Chloe Price and tries to protect her throughout the game. With mystery and danger lurking around the corners, the photographer learns dark secrets about her hometown.

Two years later, a new company decided to make a prequel called “Before the Storm”, and the first episode of three came out on Aug. 31, 2017. Deck Nine games teamed up with Square Enix to tell the story of Chloe Price, a troubled teenager who is struggling to get over the death of her father. It takes place three years before the original game.

At Chloe’s school, Blackwell Academy, she meets a girl who changes her life named Rachel Amber. The story is about Chloe ultimately helping Rachel, while also trying to get over the death of her father.

The game returns to the town of the original and has many old faces as well as a few new ones. There are lighthearted moments as well as eerie nightmares. Also, Chloe can use back talk to get out of quick situations, and players have the opportunity to do optional graffiti tags to get achievements.

In Arcadia Bay, many characters have their fair share of secrets which can be found by speaking to them, learning the information and using it in the back talk or when interacting with them. Information given can be used to get out of situations as Chloe uses her wits to help Rachel.

Like the original, the game has a splendid soundtrack. The band featured in the game is Daughters who are an Indie Band from Britain. Also, the art style from the last game has returned, as people have the opportunities to read Chloe’s letters to her friend Max, look at old photographs which help give information about the characters and the events that took place in Chloe’s life.

The game has only released the first chapter of the three. Chapter two, should come out in eight to ten weeks. I highly recommend the game to everyone as both games have a compelling story which gives insight of two great characters. I also recommend the game for the soundtrack, characters and even the art style.

“Life is Strange:Before the Storm” is a fantastic game as well as its counterpart “Life is Strange”. Both games can be purchased on Steam, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. “Life is Strange” goes for $19.99 on all platforms.

“Before the Storm” just came out and is $16.99 for all three episodes, or $24.99 for the deluxe edition, which comes with extra outfits for Chloe, a mix-tape mode, all of the episodes and a bonus episode which brings back a character from the first game.
