Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz will be defending his belt against the undefeated Cody Garbrandt at UFC 207 on Dec. 30.
Garbrandt has been looking forward to fighting Cruz for a very long time. The two fighters have not been getting along very well.
There has been a ton of trash talk going on, making the fans become much more excited for this fight.
This will be Cruz’s third title defense after defending his belt against Urijah Faber.
Cruz won that fight via unanimous decision. Faber was the only person who was able to defeat Cruz back in 2007.
Since then, they fought two more times, with Cruz winning both fights.
It was a well-earned victory for Cruz, but not as tough as his fight against ex-champion T.J. Dillashaw.
Dillashaw and Cruz were so evenly matched, it was difficult to tell who the winner would be.
Who knows, Cruz’s fight with Garbrandt could end up the same way.
After an impressive 48- second win against Takeya Mizugaki, Garbrandt is now on a 10-fight winning streak.
Because of his heavy hands and speed, his last three fights were all finished in the first round.
This marks the first time Garbrandt has gotten a title shot.
No Easy Fight
It won’t be an easy fight for Garbrandt, especially since he’s facing somebody like Dominick Cruz.
However, it could also be Cruz’s biggest challenge yet.
Garbrandt is known for knocking his opponents out, and Cruz is one of the best at avoiding incoming strikes.
Cruz has the most amazing footwork in the UFC.
He can pick his opponents apart piece by piece, and avoid every shot thrown at him all at the same time.
If Cruz gets caught, it could very well be the end for him. Once Garbrandt hits someone hard enough to make their legs turn into jelly, he will pounce on them like an animal and finish the fight.
Cruz with edge?
This fight could definitely go either way, but I believe Cruz has a slightly higher advantage since he’s had more experience going against high ranked fighters.
There has been a lot of beef between Cruz and the members of Team Alpha Male.
T.J. Dillashaw, Urijah Faber, Joseph Benavidez and Cody Garbrandt are all a part of Team Alpha Male. Garbrandt is the only worthy opponent left in Team Alpha Male to try and remove Cruz from the throne.
If he can do this, he will surely be the chosen one.
As for the other fights on the card, they will soon be revealed.
