After many long years, the state of New York has finally legalized Mixed Martial Arts. The ban first began in 1997, when many people were calling it “barbaric”.
The sport of MMA is probably the fastest growing sport in the world, and now, Ultimate Fighting Championship 205 will be held in Madison Square Garden on Nov. 12 of this year.
There is so much excitement built up around this event already.
Since it will be the first event to take place in New York, the card is going to be stacked with a ton of great fights.
The main event that is headlining the night will be Conor McGregor vs Eddie Alvarez.
Alvarez currently holds the belt for the lightweight division.
McGregor’s last fight was a decision victory against Nate Diaz, who was the first person to put McGregor away in the UFC.
This will be Alvarez’s first title defense since dominating Rafael dos Anjos via technical knockout in the very first round.
Since McGregor usually fights at featherweight, it’s difficult to tell how he would do against a lightweight champion.
I believe Alvarez is way too well-rounded for McGregor’s style.
McGregor is more of a stand up fighter, and Alvarez has really great wrestling and boxing.
I believe good wrestling is a very important quality to have as a champion.
But then again, McGregor is always full of surprises, especially since he took the belt from ex-featherweight champion, Jose Aldo, in 13 seconds.
If McGregor wins, I definitely won’t be surprised.
Of course, the other fights will be just as exciting.
Besides the main event, there will be two more championship fights.
Welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley, will be defending his belt against Stephen Thompson.
This will be Woodley’s first title defense since destroying the previous champion, Robbie Lawler.
It will definitely be a challenge for Woodley, since Thompson is great at keeping his distance and still being able to deal a lot of damage to his opponents.
Karolina Kowalkiewicz will be facing the undefeated champion, Joanna Jedrzejczyk, for the women’s Strawweight title.
Other than those championship fights, there will be other great fighters who will be competing, such as Donald Cerrone, Miesha Tate, Frankie Edgar, Chris Weidman, and Tim Kennedy, who hasn’t had a fight in two years.
I believe this is going to be a great night for MMA fans all around the world.
There is going to be a bunch of fantastic, well-rounded fighters competing.
The last time there was a card that was stacked this well, was UFC 200, which took place over the summer on July 9.
Now all we have to do is wait for this historic moment to take place on Nov. 12.
Hopefully it comes quick.
Many fans, including myself, absolutely can’t wait.
