Ah, fair food, who doesn’t love the smell of diabetes on a plate? Even as poor college students, when we see those vendors rolling up, we are ready to spend a pretty penny in an attempt to eat something that is deep fried. For me, the most important requirement for fair food is to be able to walk and eat at the same time.
Luckily, I’m not very picky at all, so when it comes to fair food, I’m really willing to try everything. Just like everyone else, I have my favorites. Let’s start with fried pickles. This is something that a few restaurants have and I’m always in the mood for. On a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 7.
Next are fried vegetables. When I first saw a sign for fried vegetables, I thought to myself, “doesn’t that defeat the purpose?” The answer? Yes, yes it does, but they are so good. It’s everything you never knew you wanted from a veggie. I would give this a 5 of the delicious scale.
Next, the obvious, funnel cake. The delicious, fried staple of any fair. I would give funnel cakes a solid 8, it only loses points because I have to be in the mood for it, and it is extremely filling. A few honorable mentions of fair food I’ve tried over the years include, frozen chocolate bananas, fried butter, caramel apples and doughnuts.
The ultimate, almighty, best fair food ever. Fried Oreos. On the deliciousness scale, this gets a 10/10. Fried Oreo’s are something you can get at any fair, where some of the other foods might be available some places, and not at others. If you have never had a Fried Oreo before, do it, I promise you it is so worth it.
