This past week was the 2016 MTV Movie Awards, and as usual, the night did not disappoint when it came to entertainment and hilarity. Here are the highlights of the night:
Hilarious Hosts – Kevin Hart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson were the hosts of the evening, and they gave tons of laughs throughout the ceremony. From rapping about Leonardo DiCaprio’s “The Revenant” performance, to being superheroes, to reenacting “Mad Max: Fury Road,” the hosts never failed to make the audience laugh.
“Suicide Squad” – A brand new trailer was revealed by the cast of the film, and it turned up the violence and craziness from the original trailer. We saw glimpses of Batman, the Batmobile and Will Smith as a total badass.
Headed for the Castle – Up-and-coming singer, Halsey, gave a blowout performance of her song “Castle” that was featured in the trailer for “The Hunstman: Winter War.” Her beautiful performance hopefully gained her even more fans.
Deadpool in the Flesh – First, Ryan Reynolds won Best Comedic Performance for “Deadpool,” and then Salt-N-Pepa sang “Shoop” for him, as a homage to the film’s soundtrack. It was truly iconic.
Sloppy Kisses – Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine won Best Kiss from Pitch Perfect 2, and then proceeded to display their affection for one another with a sloppy makeout session onstage. Aren’t they the cutest?
Harry Potter is Back…Kinda – Eddie Redmayne revealed a new trailer for the upcoming “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” a new trilogy from the world of Harry Potter. What’s better is that he popped up out of a suitcase to do so.
Feelin’ like a Dangerous Woman – Teaming up with Broadway composer Jason Robert Brown, Ariana Grande performed a new version of her newest hit, “Dangerous Woman.” She sparkled brightly on that stage, and not just because of her choice of outfit.
Will Smith is Honored – The comedy trio, “The Lonely Island,” put together a medley of Will Smith’s best songs to honor him at the ceremony. The singer and actor was presented with the Generation Award, a.k.a the biggest honor of the night.
Star Wars Takes the Galaxy – We all knew this would probably happen: the biggest event of the whole year was probably “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” so it’s only right that it won Movie of the Year. In addition, the film’s heroine, Daisy Radley, was honered with the award for Best Breakthrough Performance, and rightly so.
Will Star Wars take over the awards ceremony again next year with its next film, and who will give the most unforgettable performance? We’ll just have to wait and see when the time comes next April. Until then, keep watching movies and supporting the entertainment industry.
