Rihanna’s ‘Anti’ leans toward R&B

Rihanna released her much buzzed about eighth album online on Jan. 29.

It has been three years since the Barbados-born pop star has released an official record. “Anti” is full of creative, catchy songs, but some fans might be taken aback. R&B vibes have replaced Rihanna’s usual dance club hits, but fans will not be disappointed. Rihanna is one of the world’s best-selling artists with hits like “Umbrella,” “Diamonds” and “We Found Love,” and she has now released what many may say is her best album to date.anti

“Kiss It Better” is an 80s/90s ballad with an awesome guitar beat. The radio hit showcases Rihanna’s strong lyrics and vocals, and it will have listeners pressing the replay button.

“Needed Me” is another addictive track with powerful lyrics. Rihanna sings about someone wanting her back after treating her badly. Whether it is between a friend or lover, many people can agree that those who did not treat you right always come back when they need something.

The most beautiful song that stands out on the album is “Higher.” It is a twenty-first century long song that sounds like it came out decades ago. Even though the song is two minutes long, Rihanna performs one of her strongest songs in her career. She sings about feeling that no one can hold her back from her lover. Listeners can relate to having someone in their lives who brings them to the highest peak of happiness.

The biggest pop song on the album is hit single “Work,” which has been on iTunes top 20 for the past three weeks. This silly and naughty song is full of old Rihanna vibes that fans have come to know her for. The track includes a verse performed by rap star Drake, who has partnered with Rihanna several times on previous albums. This song is bound to be a huge hit like past singles from the duo like “What’s My Name?” and “Take Care.”

This was the graduation album for Rihanna, where she broke out artistically from her typical fist pumping jams. She took more time to create every track to display her sexy and innocent sides, and it worked in her favor.

Rihanna shows more of herself as a gritty and soulful singer in “Anti.” I would rather see the singer’s raw and emotional side, and this album is where to listen.

The singer’s world tour kicks off this spring with opening guests like boyfriend Travis Scott and The Weeknd. Although this side of the state is not on her tour date list, someone like Rihanna is worth the road trip.
