Clarion, Pa.- Plans are currently in the works for the former University Store location in the Gemmell Student Complex after the former bookstore joined with Starbucks in the move to the Suites on Main South.
They are currently in the development stages according to Shawn Hoke, the Director of the Center for Leadership and Involvement. Hoke said that the former University Store location will not be a part of phase one of the “refreshing” of the Gemmell Student Complex this summer but will be a part of phase two.
Phase one of the update will occur in time for the fall 2016 semester, including new paint, flooring, furniture and carpeting all of which are to be added in the Gemmell Student Complex this summer. The former University Store will be addressed in phase two of the project which will occur after this summer.
Hoke also said that university staff will continue to work with students to gather students’ views and opinions on uses for the space as the project continues. Until phase two begins, the former University Store location is set to be vacant and closed.
David Love, the University Director of Marketing and Communication, affirmed this viewpoint and stated that no definitive plans are currently set but that discussions are actively in progress. Alongside this, the mailroom that used to be located in Givan Hall has been moved to the Gemmell Student Complex as of this semester. Packages for students living on campus will now be picked up from the Gemmell Student Complex mail room rather than Givan Hall. Students living in Reinhard will still pick up packages from the Reinhard office.
