Senate looks forward to spring

Clarion, Pa.- The Clarion University Student Senate held its last scheduled meeting of the fall semester on Monday, Nov. 30. While the list of items on the evening’s agenda was limited with no new or unfinished business to address during finals, the meeting was marked with talks of accomplishment, pride and looking forward to the next semester of plans and activities.

Several senators made remarks on senate’s ongoing efforts and responsibility to voice the opinions, concerns and wishes of the student body to the relevant faculty and continuing to foster a mutually beneficial relationship with the university.

“I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished this semester, and I’m really looking forward to what we have planned in the spring. It’ll be an exciting time at Clarion University,” said Senator Devon Vallies, an early childhood education major of junior standing.

A university representative was in attendance at Monday’s meeting to discuss Clarion’s plans for the new Denny’s restaurant and Starbucks coffee shop that will be available starting next semester in the newly opened Suites on Main residence halls. Basic details were given regarding the new eateries’ hours of operation, physical location and much more, and that information will be made available as the winter intersession approaches.

The addition of a brand new Denny’s and Starbucks are part of the university’s larger efforts to attract prospective students while simultaneously giving their current student body an increasing number of recreational activities and locations. The opening of these two popular franchises will coincide with the grand opening of the second residence hall of the brand new Suites on Main, which will be operational beginning next semester.

Student Senate holds meetings in 246 Gemmell every Monday at 7:30 p.m. These meetings are open to the public, and more information can be found at The Student Senate office is located in 268 Gemmell.
