Last Wednesday night was the highlight of country music lovers everywhere as the 49th Annual Country Music Association Awards was aired.
Many country favorites were featured as both presenters and performers. Here’s the breakdown of some of the major awards:
Luke Bryan won Entertainer of the Year, a very prestigious award. Little Big Town’s “Girl Crush” won Single of the Year. The single also won Song of the Year, and the group (Little Big Town) won Vocal Group of the Year.
Chris Stapleton’s “Traveller” brought home Album of the Year. This was not the only award for Stapleton, however, as he also won New Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year.
Miranda Lambert won Female Artist of the Year, Florida Georgia Line won Vocal Duo of the Year and “Girl in a Country Song” by Maddie & Tae won Music Video of the Year.
Now, onto the performances, as there were many:
Hank Williams Jr. and Eric Church started the show off by performing, “Are You Ready for the Country?,” the perfect Segway into the awards. Carrie Underwood, Sam Hunt and Blake Shelton were not to be outshone, as they took the stage with guitar in hand, ready to rock the audience.
What may arguably be the best (and most talked about performance) was Justin Timberlake’s collaboration with Chris Stapleton.
A hot night for Stapleton and Timberlake is just…hot, in general. The duo sang “Tennessee Whiskey” and “Drink You Away.” Both artists definitely blew the crowd away with Stapleton’s bluegrass-country voice and JT’s smooth, R&B/pop vocals.
Every so often, Timberlake has to remind us that he’s from Tennessee and I doubt anyone will ever forget again.
Overall, the 49th Annual Country Music Association Awards was a sucess.
