Senate president shoots for big goals

Clarion, Pa.- Jarrett Coleman Boxley is a senior Strategic Communications major with a minor in Marketing at Clarion University of Pennsylvania. He is also the 2015-2016 Student Senate President, a member of Clarion’s Black Student Union as its academic retention officer, the American Advertising Federation as its treasurer, an intern in the admissions office, a tour guide and a sales associate at the local JC Penney.

Boxley has plenty of goals for senate and the university this year, including creating a better campus environment in which students may learn, study and come to know one another.

“We are in charge of representing students’ needs, concerns and providing a wide variety of services and activities to enhance the total student experience,” said Boxley.

He wants to ensure effective student representation during senate meetings, activities and functions and further cooperation and communication between students, faculty and the community. Boxley has a desire to be more visible in overseeing the activities of student clubs and organizations. His message to students is that these goals can only be accomplished if we have necessary student participation.

“With your help, we are sure to have a wonderful 2015-2016 school year,” said Boxley.

Student Senate meets every Monday at 7 p.m. in room 246 Gemmell, and all Clarion University students are encouraged to attend meetings.

Every April, Student Senate holds its election to see who will represent the student body and senate itself during the coming academic school year. This year’s newly elected and appointed student senators include: Alyssa Oddis, Brana Hill and Devon Vallies.

The officers of Student Senate for the 2015-2016 school year are President Jarrett Boxley, Vice President Marissa Kealey, Treasurer Dylan Rea, Vice President of Rules and Regulations Taylor Claypool and Secretary Leah Henderson.
