The Clarion Golden Eagles women’s tennis team improvedits record to an impressive 7-0 this Monday as it defeated Millersville 5-0.
The team traveled to Hilton Head, South Carolina.
The Golden Eagles opened up the trip with a double sweep.
That put Clarion up 3-0.
Clarion seniors Lauren Zezenski and Madeline Robinson were able to defeat Millersville’s Tori Davis and Kaylora Thompson 8-1 at No. 1.
At No. 2 senior Megan Bettwy and sophomore Maria Snyder defeated Kimberly Theophile and Nicole Daacke 8-2.
At No. 3 junior Jessica Kennelly and sophomore Allison Probst was able to defeat Samantha Brzenk Wolgemuth 8-2.
During single play, Kennelly won against Magge Karr 6-4 and 6-2 at No. 5.
Sophomore Jessica Dgien defeated Brandi Wolgemuth 6-4 and 6-0 at No. 6.
After Dgien victory, this put the Golden Eagles up 5-0 and the match ended there.
There were four matches in single play that went unfinished.
In singles competition, Zezenski’s match against Tori Davis was unfinished.
Bettwy’s match against vs Kaylora Thompson was unfinished.
Robinson’s matchup against Kimberly Theophile went unfinished and Snyder’s match against Nicole Daccke also went unfinished.
This is head coach Joshua Thorpe’s second season with the Clarion Golden Eagle’s women tennis team.
The team is scheduled to play Indiana University of Pennsylvania on March 24.
The team plans on continuing its successful season they have so far.
“The season is going great. I’m loving how we’re playing and it seem like we’re all having fun,” Zezenski said.
The team is 7-0 so far this season.
This is a good thing for the ladies after having a disappointing season last year.
“Even though we’re 7-0 right now, we still have to work hard each and everyday. No days off. I want to keep this success up,” Zezenski said.
