#What’sTrending: Valentine’s Day Ideas

Staying in versus Going out – Both Hot! If you and your significant other can’t decide what to do on Valentine’s Day this year, the option of staying in and relaxing or going out to celebrate your love is up to you! Both of these options are up in the air this year. With busy schedules, sometimes it is nice to just stay in, rent a movie, have a good home-cooked meal together, and blissfully enjoy one another’s company. On the other hand, it is also fun to go out to dinner, have a fun date night, and celebrate the union of love. Even if there is no significant other, treat yourself to something nice and make the best out of this Valentine’s Day!

Corny Gifts – Hot! It seems that corny Valentine’s Day gifts are around every corner of different stores right after Christmas, all the way into February. At one point in time, these gifts were what started the fun of Valentine’s Day. Then, they went out of style, and now they are back. Sometimes there is nothing better than sending or receiving the customary chocolates and flowers. However, this year, be creative with gifts like these. Make homemade chocolate-covered strawberries for your special someone. Or make a customized personal card to send along with flowers. Originality is sometimes the best way to put a smile on someone’s face. Make sure to put your own little spin on the gift you give, so it sends that touch of personal uniqueness.

Generic Chocolates in a Heart-Shaped Box – Not! Sorry love-birds, but let’s try to be a little bit more sentimental this year for Valentine’s Day. Anyone can just go out and buy a heart shaped boxed full of chocolate for their valentine, but if you want to try something different and out of the ordinary, but you still want to keep a heart shape something in tradition try the “creative” approach. One idea is to make a pizza shaped as a heart for dinner. Then for desert, make cupcakes and shape them into a delicious, completely edible heart.

Homemade Valentine Cards – Hot! Look, we are all (well, mostly all of us) poor college students here. There is nothing wrong with making a little homemade card for you friend or valentine. It shows that you actually put some time and effort into making your valentine for that person. A plus about making your own card is that you can say whatever you want inside it and create whatever you want on the outside. It’s a win-win. Also, another nice plus, the odds of that homemade card surviving are much higher compared to a purchased one. Homemade cards have that sentimental power, people.

Flowers – Hot! Roses are red, violets are blue…well, they’re actually violet, but you get the picture. Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be complete without flowers. Find out what your Valentine’s favorite flower is before you get them anything. Because you never know, they might not like roses. Some people don’t, others do. Thankfully, there are other types of flowers in the world, like lilies, daisies and orchids, which make really great alternatives, and smell heavenly!

Night Out at the Movies: Hot! “Fifty Shades of Grey” comes to theaters on Feb. 13. You can end the night watching this intense chick flick, or if you want to take a route with more comedy and much less romance, the new movie “Kingsman: The Secret Service” which premieres on Feb.13, would be a great way to end a perfect Valentine’s Day.
