Clarion University Police reports campus assault

3:15 p.m. on Monday Feb. 9, a female Clarion University Student was approached by a male near Harvey Hall who asked her for directions.

The male then grabbed the female by the waist, pushed her to the wall, and assaulted her. He then fled the area. The suspect is described as being a white male, 5-foot 7-inches  to 5-foot 8-inches tall, blonde hair, wearing a gray hoodie.

The Clarion University Police Department is currently investigating the incident, and sent crime alert emails to students and staff late Tuesday night.

Prevention and Safety Tips:

1. Stay alert to your surroundings at all times.

2. Stay close to friends and do not interact with strangers.

3. Do not approach suspicious persons or vehicles.

4. Avoid using devices that impair your hearing or sight while walking.

5. Report any suspicious incidents, persons or vehicles to the Clarion University Police or off campus to the Clarion Borough Police or Pennsylvania State Police via 911.

Clarion University student Alexis Miller said, “Since someone decided to sexually assualt an innocent woman walking through the middle of campus yesterday, I think we all should show solidarity against violence toward women at this event.”

She asks students to show their support against women and girls violence by attending “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, and A Prayer” VDay project.

Security Aide Emily Romig, shows concern with campus safety. “It is such a suprise that this happened. We are a small and are not used to things like this happening. It’s my job to keep the campus safe at night, but how else can we keep campus safe during the day?”

Sophomore Audrey Platz advices students to “just be smart. Carry an emergency whistle. It confuses me how this happened in the middle of the day, but  you have to do what is best in the time of danger.”

If in ever found in an emergency position, students are encourgaed to use one of the 45 ‘blue light’ emergency call buttons located around campus. The closest emergency call button located to Harvey Hall is located right beside Egbert Hall.
