Zerfoss puts together solid performance as Clarion women’s diving travels to Youngstown State

The Clarion Women’s Diving team visited Youngstown State University this past Saturday.

They were the only Golden Eagle Swimming or Diving team in attendance.

Junior diver Sarah Zerfoss finished second on one and three meter boards on Saturday afternoon to lead the Golden Eagles.

Sarah Zerfoss had a quality day finishing second on one meter with 2156.57 points, losing to Youngstown’s McKenzie Stelter by only 72 hundredths of a point, while placing second on 3 meter with 240.53 points.

Clarion junior Lauren Slayton was fourth on the three meter with 216.60 points and was fifth on the one meter with 210.82 points.

Sophomore Grace Nielsen was sixth on both boards scoring 189.97 points on the one meter and 182.77 points on the 3 meter.Diving

Freshman Amanda O’Kane was seventh on both boards.

When asked about how the team has performed thus far this season, head coach Mark Vandyke elaborated, “We are getting better each week. The team is putting forth a great effort.”

Vandyke said that “We can improve by working harder at practice on starts, turns and finishes.”

Vandyke added “Everyone is putting in a great amount of work and we will find out more about ourselves Dec. 5-7 at Akron.”

Both diving teams will be back in action Saturday Nov. 22 at Tippin Gym and the swimming teams will also be in action on Nov. 22 in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.
