Offense lacks as Clarion softball gets swept by Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Clarion softball was hit with eight straight postponements before being able to take the field this week.
Clarion played two games on Tuesday at Slippery Rock University.
Tuesday the Golden Eagles dropped both their games against the Slippery Rock Rock 4-3 and 3-1.
Junior Shawna Crago took the mound for the Eagles and pitched an astounding five innings for the Eagles before giving up four runs in the sixth.
Before that, Clarion Had a 1-0 lead from a RBI single by sophomore Christina Tressler that brough home junior Ashley Barenchik. Baker
Chelsea Zola pitched one third of an inning in relief for Crago ending the Rock outburst.
Clarion did have a shot in the seventh to force extras, but ultimately only scored two runs back on senior Kirsten Wilcox’s  single which allowed freshmen Lauren Henderson and Paige Baker to score.
The game ended with junior Taylor Powell stranded on third being the tying run.
Clarion never had the lead in the second game of the night as Baker gave up three runs in the first three innings.
She finished with five innings pitched.
She moved her record to 0-3 on the year.
The only run Clarion managed to gain in the second game scored Henderson on a Powell fielders choice groundout in the fourth inning.
These games were Clarion’s first PSAC games of the year dropping them at that point to 1-8 (0-2).
