While there are some acts already lined up for the show, Jeremy Moore, Community Outreach Assistant for Allies, notes that the turnout at auditions this year was not what he would’ve hoped for. “Honestly, I’m kind of disappointed. But I still have faith. I think it’ll still be just as good if not better,” said Moore.
For those who will be performing their talents the night of the show, it’s being left up to the crowd to decide who wins based on their response to the various performers.
Among those who will be performing their talents is the Clarion Dance Team, the Hip Hop Dance Team and some Allies officers and group members. Junior Janet Calipo, who auditioned Monday night with a moving rendition of Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man,” was pushed by her friends to audition.
“I want to stop being nervous. I want to get myself out there and if it’s for Allies it’s a plus,” said Calipo.
This is the third year Allies has put on this event. The original idea to do a drag talent show was inspired by other universities who had similar events and was felt to be a good way to inspire equality and raise awareness of the LGBTQ community.
“I’m sure Allies decided, at the time, that it would be a good event to help publicize Allies and show what we represent. I feel like this year, especially, now that we’ve gotten the hang of it [the talent show] we’re starting to build some momentum,” said Moore.
The Drag Talent Show will be help in the Gemmell Multi-Purpose Room on Tuesday, April 15 at 7 p.m. For more information about Allies or the talent show, contact them via their Clarion University Allies Facebook page or at their weekly meetings on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. in Harvey 124.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_facebook type=”standard”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_tweetmeme type=”horizontal”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
