Loughner ties record for Clarion track and field at weekend meet

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]This past Saturday was a special day for the Clarion University women’s indoor track and field team.
There were three champions for the team at the Mount Union University Jim Wuske Invitational this weekend.
The three winners were senior Sarah Loughner, freshman Jessica Shomo and sophomore Katie Chambers.
Loughner tied her own school record when she won the high jump this weekend.
She recorded a leap of 1.60 meters (5-feet, 3-inches).
Shomo was the winner of the long jump while also qualifying for the PSAC championships. She recorded a leap of 5.07 meters.
Katie Chambers won the 500- meter dash.
She recorded the dash in a time of 1.25.2.
These women weren’t the only ones who had success this past weekend.
Seniors Megan Toddy and Ciara Shorts also qualified for the PSAC championships.
They qualified for the PSAC championships in the 3,000 meter run.
Toddy finished second with a time of 10:39.97 while Shorts finished right behind Toddy for third with a time of 10:47.07.
The team had a good day overall as a team.
Five out of the nine individuals finished in the top and had a relay team that finished in the top five as well.
The relay team is led by freshman Tatiana Cloud.
Cloud had three top five finishes.
Cloud also finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.48, fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.17 and fifth in the 60-meter hurdles.
She was also apart of the 4×400-meter relay team who finished fourth with a time of 4:11.37.
On Friday, the Clarion Golden Eagles traveled to Youngstown, Ohio to compete. Sophomore Kristen Belko led the way for the Eagles.
Belko finished sixth penthalon with a score of 2,821.
“We accomplished a lot this weekend because we know what we needed to do and we came out and performed like we had too.” Belko said. “We will be able to repeat our success, having some time off gives our bodies some rest for PSACs.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_facebook type=”standard”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_tweetmeme type=”horizontal”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
