Chambers qualifies in Division II Team Challenge for Clarion women’s track

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Sophomore Katie Chambers qualified for the PSAC Championships, highlighting the track and field’s showing this past Saturday.
The team hit the road to compete in the NCAA Division II Team Challenge, hosted this year by the SPIRE Institute.
Chambers finished the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.36, good for nearly two seconds faster than the PSAC-qualifying standard.
Chambers is excited for the opportunity to compete in the PSAC Championships, and she is confident that she will improve her time.
“I’m pretty ambitious for this year’s conference meet. I’m confident that I can contend for top 8. If I go out and just race, my goals should be realized.”
Eight other Clarion athletes finished in the top 20, including freshman Tatiana Cloud, who just missed qualifying in the 400-meter dash.
Her time of 1:01.28 was just .08 seconds away from securing her spot in the PSAC Championships.
Other Golden Eagle top 20 finishers included seniors Megan Toddy and Ciara Shorts who finished 18th and 20th in the mile.
Sophomore Kristen Belko earned the top finish for Clarion with her 13th place in the triple jump.
Despite being the only qualifier at the Midwest Indoor Challenge, Chambers is confident other teammates will make it to the PSAC Championships.
“Overall, our team performed well. It’s the middle of the season where practices are the most difficult, but there were many individual performances that indicate the team will have the most athletes qualify for PSACs in the last five years.”
The track and field team has two more meets to qualify for the PSACs before the Championship meet in Edinboro on March 1-2.
Chambers said, “Our goals for the season are to qualify as many individuals for the conference championships as possible, to achieve as many personal bests as possible, and to just continue to improve.”
