After big win against Slippery Rock, Clarion men’s basketball falls to IUP

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]This past Saturday, the Clarion Golden Eagles Men’s basketball team went on the road to face Indiana University of Pennsylvania at the Kovalchick Complex.
The game started out slow for the Golden Eagles as Head Coach Ron Righter stated, “We came out flat against a very good team.”
They fell behind early on 22-12 with 11:24 left in the first half and could not recover as IUP held a 20 point lead at half as Clarion trailed 46-26.
The Golden Eagles trailed by as many as 31 during the second half by the score of 65-34 before falling to IUP by a final of 82-61.
Freshman scoring guard B.J. Andrews lead the way for Clarion by tying his career high of 18 points while adding six rebounds and four assists.
Senior Mike Kromka scored 15 points and also had six rebounds on the night.
Junior point guard Marques Jones put up 11 points and two assists.
Senior guard Anthony Baker chipped in with six points.
Righter said Junior Tyrone McFadden “had a very good game and gave the team solid minutes off the bench and allowed them to move Jones to scoring guard for sometime during the game.”
Clarion shot 42 percent from the field, which is the third consecutive game shooting above 40 percent as they only shot above that marker four times in the first 14 games of the season.
The loss makes Clarion 4-14 on the season and 2-8 in the PSAC West.
“Its disappointing after coming off an emotion overtime win against Slippery Rock. The team is in 7th place in the PSAC West and two games out of PSAC playoffs,” Righter said  “It’s great that there is something to play for. The next few games are huge for us as each team is in the mix for the final playoff spot.” Righter also added, “Our goal is for us to go into the last week of the season playing for a playoff spot.”
The Clarion Golden Eagles will take the court Wednesday as they head to Seton Hill.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_facebook type=”standard”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_tweetmeme type=”horizontal”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
