Fickel reaches 1,000-point milestone as the Golden Eagles fall to Edinboro

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]On Saturday the Clarion women’s basketball team took on the Edinboro Fighting Scots at Tippin Gymnasium.
The Golden Eagles came out strong leading by as much as five early on in the first half.
Edinboro stormed back and grabbed the lead and took a 39-35 advantage into the half.
The Fighting Scots started the second half on a 13-0 run and increased their lead to 17 points.
The Edinboro lead sustained for the remainder of the game as Clarion lost by a final of 85-67.
Head coach Gie Parsons said, “The team needs to work a little harder.”
The loss pushes the team’s losing streak to four.
Clarion is now 1-7 in the PSAC and 7-10 overall on the season.
The lone bright spot for Clarion was senior Emma Fickel, as she scored eight points on the night giving her 1,000 points in her career at Clarion. Clarion women's basketball
Fickel becomes just the 15th Golden Eagle to achieve the 1,000 point mark.
“It’s a great accomplishment, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates, coaches and  family.” said Fickel.
In regards to Fickel’s 1000th point Parsons said “It is a tremendous accomplishment, and I could not be more proud of her.”
Junior forward Hannah Heeter recorded her fourth consecutive double-double, leading the team with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Redshirt freshman Kelly Johnson had 14 points while with leading the team with five assists and four steals.
Sophomore Tania Holmes added 11 points and four assists.
Freshman Maria Taylor scored seven  points in the contest.
